Peepoople

The Peepoo is a personal single use toilet, that sanitizes human excreta shortly after defecation, preventing the faeces from contaminating the immediate and larger environment. The toilet is a high technology product for a low economy. As with the original Tetra-Pak, it uses a minimum of material while providing maximum hygiene.Recognizing consumer needs, the Peepoo is formulated from a bottom up perspective putting the user’s need first. Ergonomically designed to be easy and hygienic to use, simple and rational to produce, and thus possible to be sold to groups with the weakest purchasing power, the Peepoo offers a sanitation choice for both individuals and society at large.

The Peepoo is personal, as in personal computer; it is mobile, as in mobile phone; and micro, as in Microsoft. User-friendly and advanced, yet simple and cheap, the Peepoo offers a high degree of contemporary status. The Peepoo is personal in the sense that it can be used whenever and wherever needed. It can be used NOW, there is no need to wait for public or political action. As the Peepoo is never used, never occupied, and always clean, it allows the user complete privacy. The Peepoo can work as an every day toilet or as a complementary sanitation system at night, at work, or at school. Due to its low price, it can be used regularly at home or only when ill. It can be given as a gift.Since no investments or up-front money are needed, the use of the Peepoo does not encumber the future.

I think only we have normal idea. It can get something to help and develop sanitation. But we must do to protect disease from human distribution to environmental too.

  1. Thanks for this Tanat. After reading the post, watching the video (which is in Kibera slums in Nairobi, Kenya, one of the biggest slums in the world), and going through their website, I was very impressed how this simple thing can actually transform people's lives and their immediate environment for the better. I mean, since it becomes high quality fertilizer after 2-4 weeks, their faeces can actually become very valuable, in terms of either growing their own organic mini gardens, or even selling on the fertilizer. If they would really manage to keep the price low, slums in Africa, Latin America and certain Asian countries could be transformed in bustling communities, being self sustained and raising their standard of living. Thanks Tanat for pointing us to this article, and it gives hope that there are people out there that really try to improve less fortunate people's lives by giving them something sustainable in the long run, instead of the usual handouts.

  2. I think it's a good idea because the toilet is a high technology product for a low economy family and make a good quality of life. After used the bag can be decomposed by biodegradation because the Peepoo is made of a high performance degradable bioplastic. The user can use this bag without endangering the environment.

  3. Fantastic, It 's the basic idea. Let think about if the member of this community act in the same direction, and the community is arranged the zone.
For example, the communitie provide living zone, plant zone, and bio-gas zone.

The community will be more sanitary. The community will able to produce income from agriculture product. If it has someone support the know how of making biodiesel, the community will aable to produce the electricity to use in the community.

  4. Amazing indeed! The idea is very simple but totally useful.

I may have missed something but how about the degradation?

  5. This post is an example of basic idea for environmental management. Poonperm stated a good point on degradation. Let's think about the plastic degradation.
