Japanese town testing solar-powered EVs

Hi all,

I had posted an article before, but i put it as a comment to the Course intro :). i will post another article this way then: Japanese town testing solar-powered EVs
This is a very good example of making sure the Electric Vehicles (EV) are truly zero emissions, as critics always claim that if you charge your car from normal electric grid, that electricity comes from coal, oil, and gas, and thus it would still have high carbon footprint. But when the electricity comes from clean renewable energy, then this would make perfect sense. I'm also thinking about solar home charging kits for cars, maybe install them as shade in your garage. What do you guys think? This would definitely work in Thailand, with all the sun we have...

  1. Let imagine about BMT bus.

    In mypoint of view, the solar power is practical in Thailand. We can start to do with public transportation first,especially, public bus.

    Convincing people to change the car imidaitely to electric car.It's not easy. I think most people afrid that if they change to electric car and goverment are not support any cost about tax, electric sation and others. Who will cahnge it.

    In my opinion, If the state really concern emission, it have to do demonstration fist.

    For example, the goverment should launch the project of electrical public transportaion first.
    BTR is suitable in pilot scheme.

    If the project is success, in the future, private sector will invole with the campagin.

  2. For my personal opinion, think big, do it small should be a good strategy for green-transporatation. We may start with the prototype of low energy car. But we have to think as holistic view including policy making, technologies, socio-economic, regulations to develop the prototype of low energy car.

  3. Yes, i totally agree with that. Green energy and products would initially need government support in terms of tax incentives until they can reach economies of scale, and bring the real cost of production down to affordability to all people. We can see that it is happening with the new all electric car from Nissan (Leaf), it will be available in US, Japan, and many western European countries by end of this year, and all countries have introduced lots of benefits.     Also, i tried to dig even deeper into their production method, and it seems that Nissan is really trying to make it a close loop production: http://www.nissanusa.com/leaf-electric-car/index#/leaf-electric-car/faq/list/environment. Obviously we would need to verify this, but I thin its a good start, and it probably will make a lot of business sense to them, as they concentrated on electric cars, and didn't waste time on Hybrid.
